Cocktails & Drinks

Learning how to make cocktails and drinks is a must for those looking to practice home bartending as opposed to spending money on drinks at the bar (especially with their rising price tags).  Here, you’ll a wide variety of cocktail recipes broken down by spirit to help you narrow things down. Whether it’s vodka, gin, whiskey or tequila, there’s something for everyone.

Hi, I’m Karlynn…

I’m a busy mom of two, wife & cookbook author who loves creating fast, fresh meals for my little family on the Canadian prairies. Karlynn Facts: I'm allergic to broccoli. I've never met a cocktail that I didn't like. I would rather burn down my house than clean it.

Most of all, I love helping YOU get dinner ready because there's nothing more important than connecting with our loved ones around the dinner table!

And My Husband Mike...

Mr. Magpie is the resident cocktail maker and enjoys nothing more than sharing all his vintage barware and new cocktail recipes with you guys!

How to Make Cocktails

Learning how to make cocktails is easy, you just have to make sure you have the right bar tools for the job. One of my favorite bar tool / cocktail sets is the one pictured here by Fifth Label. It’s a great set and also very visually attractive.

I really do feel like it’s the perfect set as it comes with everything you could possibly need for your home bar. It also doesn’t feel cheap, which is nice as nothing is more annoying than poor quality products.

Note: I am not being paid to promote this particular item, my love of it is genuine. I am, however, using an affiliate link.

Stuff to Keep on Hand for Cocktails

There are a few items that I recommend keeping on hand if you plan on making cocktails.

  1. Simple Syrup – you can print the recipe for this right here on this page.
  2. Lemons and Limes (for garnish and for juicing as needed) because fresh juice is always better than something out of a bottle.
  3. Rose’s Grenadine and Lime Cordial (you can find these here: Rose’s cordials).
