Chocolate chip banana bread – don’t those very words just make you drool?! This super moist banana bread is full of deliciously melty chocolate chips that are literally heaven on the taste-buds. We’re always being told chocolate is bad for us but I beg to differ. I mean, did you know that chocolate is actually a VEGETABLE?! Sure, it’s stretching the truth a little tiny bit, but there is definitely truth in it. It’s a grey area but let’s look at the facts: it comes from the cacao bean and starts its life growing as a seed on the cacao tree, which is enough proof for me! This revelation has drastically reduced any guilt I had over my chocolate cravings (which wasn’t very much though, if I’m honest!).
How do you make chocolate chip banana bread?
- Preheat your oven to 325 ° F .
- Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside. Glass or ceramic loaf pans work the best!
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs into the butter Mix the bananas in.
- Stir in the dry ingredients mixture until blended.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and the chopped gourmet chocolate until just combined.
- Pour the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake in the oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean,, around 65-70 minutes.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Remove the bread from the pan and cool on a wire baking rack completely before storing. Store in a close container at room temperature for 2-3 days.
How long will Chocolate Banana Bread last?
Freshly baked chocolate banana bread will last for up to 2 days at room temp. Any longer and it’ll start to get dry. plastic wrap, tin foil, or an airtight container to keep it from drying out or going bad even faster. Once it’s wrapped up tightly, you can extend its life for a bit longer by keeping it refrigerated
Tip and Tricks
- Use bananas that are super ripe but avoid any with split peels because they could contain harmful bacteria that your tummy will not be happy about!
- If you free your ripe bananas and return them to room temp before baking, they’ll be much easy to work with and your banana bread will be even more moist.
- A stand mixer (or a hand mixer) is great for pureeing the bananas, especially if you don’t like having banana chunks in your bread.
- Nuts are an awesome addition to this bread. If you’re a fan of nuts, just sprinkle them over the top to get that crunchy texture we all love.
- Wrap the chocolate banana bread in plastic wrap when it’s still a bit warm to keep it moist overnight.
Enjoy!!! And remember, this is technically one of your five a day (kind of!).

I am going to give this recipe a try as we buy bananas and sometimes our kids eat them like there is no tomorrow and others we have them there and they start to go bad. But now I can make this before they go bad and have a treat for the kids. Looks like a win-win to me.
