Karlynn’s Recipe Notes

  • Skill Level: This is a very easy recipe.
  • Total Time: These dumplings will take approximately 20 minutes to make.
  • Variations: You can add thyme, parsley, and oregano for a wonderful flavor. Or you can even add some green onion or dill. Mix some shredded cheese into the dough. Add some chopped jalapenos or a bit of cayenne powder for a kick of heat.
  • Tools Needed: For this recipe, you’ll need a medium bowl, a spoon, and whatever pot, slow cooker, etc. you are cooking your soup or stew in.

What You’ll Need For Ingredients

Biscuit Mix: Storebought Bisquick, a generic biscuit mix, or your own homemade version will all work for this recipe.

Milk: Whatever milk you’d like to use will be fine for this. Depending on the biscuit mix you end up using, you may be able to add water instead of milk.

Hot Liquid: Dumplings cook from the heat and steam of boiling liquid, so plop the dough into whatever pot of soup or stew you’re making and then cover the pot with a lid to trap the heat.

How to Make Bisquick Dumplings

This is a brief overview of the recipe. The full list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, stir Bisquick mix and milk together until they form a sticky dough.
  2. Drop the dough my heaping tablespoons into a hot stew or soup. Aim for spots that have plenty of liquid.
  3. Cover with a lid and cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Take the lid off and cook for 5 more minutes.

Karlynn’s Tips and Tricks for Making Bisquick Dumplings

Dumpling Uses: Use this dumpling recipe for Bisquick™ Chicken and Dumplings, or adjust the amounts to make Bisquick® Biscuits. Drop your dumplings into a big pots of Chicken Noodle Soup or some Classic Homestyle Pork Stew. You can even use the biscuit mix for Bisquick™ Peach Cobbler Recipe.

Dumpling Sizes: Following this recipe will give you approximately 8 dumplings, but you can divide the dough into more or less pieces depending on the precise size you’re looking for. Remember, if you make them smaller, they won’t need as long to cook, whereas if you make them larger you will need to cook them for longer to avoid eating raw dough.

Storage Instructions

Fridge: Once fully cooled, you can store your leftover dumplings and soup or stew in a sealed container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Freezer: While you can easily store soup or stew in the freezer in sealed containers for several months, cooked dumplings won’t freeze or defrost very nicely. So just make a fresh batch when you’re ready to eat more.

Prep: 2 minutes

Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, stir the Bisquick mix and the milk together until completely combined and formed into a sticky, soft dough.
  • Drop the biscuit dough by large tablespoonfuls onto the hot stew or soup mixture. I like to drop it onto areas that have liquid so the biscuits do not get dried out. This will make 8 dumplings.
  • Place the lid back on the Dutch oven/soup pot/slow cooker and cook for 15 minutes. Take off the lid and continue cooking for another 5 minutes or until the biscuits are done.
  • The biscuits will be done when the top and bottoms are cooked and no longer sticky.

Notes

  • You can add seasoning to this if you want, like dried parsley, dill, etc.
