Karlynn’s Recipe Notes

  • Skill Level: This recipe is easy and quick – perfect for beginners or anyone craving a crunchy, minty treat!
  • Total Time: Prep takes about 15 minutes, plus some time for your bars to set.
  • Variations: Pair these bars with my Homemade Mint Hot Chocolate Mix for an extra minty spread. Or for a fun twist, try layering half of the marshmallow mixture with Chocolate Sauce before topping with the remaining mixture, or drizzle some on top!
  • Tools For This Recipe: You’ll need a 9×13-inch baking pan, a large mixing bowl, a large saucepan, a spoon or spatula for stirring the marshmallows, and a knife for slicing.

What You’ll Need for Ingredients

Oreo Puffs: These little cereal puffs are chocolatey, crunchy, and totally addictive. I didn’t even know they existed until I found them in the cereal aisle! Karlynn’s Tip: Any other chocolate cereal can be swapped in if you can’t track down Oreo Puffs.

Oreo Cookies: Use a mix of birthday cake, chocolate-covered, and mint Oreos for layered flavor in every bite. Karlynn’s Tip: Customize this recipe with your favorite Oreos for a personal twist.

Marshmallows: Marshmallows add the gooey, melty texture that holds these bars together and makes them totally irresistible.

Butter: Use salted butter and a splash of vanilla extract to create a rich, flavorful base that enhances every bite. Karlynn’s Tip: Gently melt the butter and let it brown lightly for a subtle, nutty taste that complements the chocolate and Oreos.

How To Make Minty Chocolate Oreo Cereal Bars

This is a quick overview of the recipe. The full list of ingredients & complete step-by-step instructions are in the recipe card below.

  1. Grease a 9×13 pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Grease the inside of a large mixing bowl with butter, then add the cereal and chopped cookies.
  3. Melt the marshmallows in butter until smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal and cookies and gently stir to coat evenly.
  5. Press the mixture firmly into the pan to ensure it reaches the edges.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit until it sets, about an hour. Then slice and enjoy!

Karlynn’s Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Minty Chocolate Oreo Cereal Bars

  • Add Marshmallows Gradually: Add your marshmallows slowly and stir constantly to prevent clumps and ensure a smooth, creamy mixture.
  • Customize Your Bars: Experiment with different chocolate cereals, cookie flavors, candy pieces, or even stir peanut or almond butter into the marshmallow mixture for a nutty chocolate twist!
  • Mix While Warm: Once the marshmallow mixture is fully melted, pour it over the cereal and crushed Oreos right away. It starts to set fast, so stir immediately to coat everything evenly.

Storage Instructions

These Minty Chocolate Oreo Cereal Bars store easily on the counter and freeze just as well – though they usually disappear before you get the chance!

Room Temperature: Store your bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. This keeps the marshmallows soft and the cereal crisp. There’s no need to refrigerate, as the bars will harden.

Freezer: After the bars have fully set, slice them and place them in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. They’ll keep well in the freezer for up to 3 months, according to USDA food safety guidelines.

NICE! I might have to steal your idea lol!

  3. Candace Calkins says

Krave is pretty popular in our house. Chocolate Cheerios are surprisingly good too. I like to make what I call Garbage Bars. Whatever’s in the cupboard that the kids wouldn’t eat, or those annoying boxes with like a half a serving left, that’s how I get rid of it.

  4. The Kitchen Magpie says

Yes, they do! What’s your favorite chocolate cereal? What’re you going to use for them?
