Cinnamon Maple Cream Cheese Baked French Toast.
Did I have you at CREAM CHEESE?
Or was it Cinnamon Maple?
Or I mean really, it was everything, wasn’t it?
Did you say CinnamonMapleCreamCheeseBakedFrenchToast? Uh, yes, please!
Let’s talk for a moment about this last recipe that I created using Dempster’s new Honey Wheat bread.
I’m pretty sure that I just ate cheesecake for breakfast and I am completely on board with this concept. As you can see, this baked French Toast has delicious-looking cinnamon topped cream cheese bits on top. That dark, melty goodness is a wee bit of brown sugar mixed with cinnamon to cut the sourness of the cream cheese.
What’s truly amazing is that this recipe uses maple syrup to replace the sugars and only uses 1 tbsp of brown sugar in the topping. That’s it for the sugars. I actually only used the brown sugar to make sure that the cream cheese wasn’t too tangy and one tablespoon was enough for the entire topping!
I made a truly decadent baked french toast and cut the crusts off of the Dempster’s Honey Wheat bread and it’s up to you to decide what you’d prefer. The crusts will lend a chewier texture to the baked French toast and would be delicious as well.
You really can’t go wrong with whichever you choose.
This is pretty much all that you need to make the Cinnamon Maple Cream Cheese Baked French Toast. It is such an incredibly simple recipe that I made it during the week for breakfast.
Let’s face it, there’s less sugar in this dish than most breakfast cereals and it’s absolutely PACKED with protein from the bread, milk, eggs and cream cheese. The maple syrup just makes it feel like a crazy sweet treat!
Mr Magpie loved this. He’s crazy about cheesecake and he has stated that this is unequivocably his favourite baked french toast now, which is high praise indeed. There really is something decadent about those cream cheese squares on the top!
This recipe was baked in an 8×8 pan but will double perfectly if you want to bake up a larger batch for the weekend! Just use a 9×13 pan ( it will be a little thicker and you will have to bake it for about 10-15 minutes longer) and double the recipe.
Happy Baking everyone!
Love,
Karlynn
