Air Fryer Pizza Rolls

Pizza rolls are one of those ever-present guilty pleasures that everyone secretly has stashed away in their freezer.

The problem, however, is just how long they seem to take when you cook them in the oven. Alongside the waste of energy and the wasted heat, waiting for your pizza rolls is easily one of the worst feelings in the world when you just really want a snack.

If you use your handy air fryer, of course, it couldn’t be easier or faster! Plus, they get an even crispier coating then you would get with any other cooking method.

Do You Need To Defrost Your Pizza Rolls First?

One of the great things about frozen pizza rolls is that there is no need to defrost them before you cook them in your air fryer. This makes air fryer pizza rolls the perfect impulse meal as there is no need to plan ahead and take them out the day before to defrost.

If you are worried about your pizza rolls coming out of your air fryer soggy as they have defrosted while cooking, this won’t happen thanks to the magic of flash freezing.

One of the essential steps in making factory-frozen pizza rolls is to cook them until they are almost fully done.

At this point, the pizza rolls are pulled from the oven and flash-frozen at an extremely low temperature. This process stops ice crystals from being able to develop on the pizza rolls meaning that when they are cooked in your air fryer there aren’t any crystals to break apart giving your pizza that horrible soggy texture.

Making Your Own Pizza Rolls? Try These Toppings

The best thing about making your own pizza rolls is that you can put whatever you want on them and don’t have to feel limited by the few options available at your local store.

You can choose to go with the pizza classics or mix things up and try different combinations in your pizza rolls. You could even try making a few different pizza rolls using different topping combinations!

  • Classic Pepperoni

Pepperoni is a classic pizza topping and one that you really can’t go wrong with if you decide to make your own pizza rolls.

Plus pepperoni is one of the easiest toppings in terms of prep as you can buy it pre-sliced and ready to put on your pizza from your local grocery store.

  • Sausage and Mushrooms

Sausage and mushrooms are another popular pizza topping often associated with deep dish pizzas, but there is no reason why you can’t try this delicious combination on your pizza rolls.

Depending on how much time you want to spend prepping ingredients you could make your own sausage meat allowing you to season it perfectly to your taste.

Or for a much easier option, you could buy your favorite sausage, remove the skins and break them apart as you cook them before adding them as a topping to your pizza.

  • Grilled Peppers and Sweet Corn

For meat-free pizza rolls, you could try your favorite vegetables for example grilled pepper and sweet corn as toppings.

You can either use fresh peppers that you cut into slices and season to taste or you could use ready-grilled pepper which can usually be found in the deli section of your grocery store.

For the sweet corn use a can of prepared corn, there is no reason to add the extra effort that comes with using fresh corn.

  • Onions and Feta

Caramelized onions and feta is a go-to vegetarian pizza topping combination with combining the sweetness from the onions and the creaminess from the cheese.

While it does take a while to caramelize onions just right it is definitely worth the time and is a step that you will regret rushing. Luckily you can bulk-cook your onions in advance and store them in an airtight container in the fridge ready to use on your pizza rolls.
