Believe it or not, this is one of the best smoothies to enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this was. The combination of apple and cinnamon makes you feel like you are drinking an apple pie. It’s that good!

Apple Smoothie

The good thing about a smoothie is that it’s a quick and easy way to not only get your fruit in but also to use up expiring fruit before it starts to truly go bad. If you want to use coconut or soy yogurts instead, it will work just fine. The only real change will be in the flavor and perhaps the thickness depending on what you use as a substitute.

Dairy Free Versions

Substituting standard cow milk for other options such as Oat Milk, Rice Milk or Coconut Milk will work here as well, just expect a bit of a change in flavor profile.

Sweetening the Smoothie

This recipe uses maple syrup and banana as a sweetening technique. You can use a frozen banana or fresh one, just make sure it’s really ripe so that it sweetens the smoothie. If you want to increase the sweetness of the smoothie, you can do so by slightly increasing the amount of maple syrup you use OR by using a riper banana. You can even increase the amount of banana (add an additional half) although it may change the thickness of the smoothies slightly.

Make it Lactose-Free

I used almond milk and lactose-free vanilla yogurt in this recipe as both my kids try to avoid lactose, and it is the BEST smoothie that I have ever made. I’m quite serious when I tell you that the spices, the oatmeal, and the apple make this a treat compared to your regular fruit-tasting smoothie! This will be our new go-to smoothie when we have apples to use up.

Tips for a Thicker Apple Smoothie

If you want your smoothie to be thicker, lower the amount of milk by 1/4 cup.  This will give you a thicker end result. Personally, I found the measurements we used to be good for our family but some people want more of a milkshake end result, so there’s how you can do it! Remember that this recipe is easy to adjust to your liking so feel free to tweak it as desired.

Enjoy!

Mike
