Sometimes used as a hangover cure, the Corpse Reviver is a cocktail that has been around since the mid 1800’s and comes in numerous variations.

Corpse Reviver #2

I’m going to share with you several variations of this cocktail but my personal favorite is the Corpse Reviver #2.

How to Make a Corpse Reviver #2

This one is my favorites, mainly due to the addition of Cointreau (I love orange based liqueurs like this). To make the second variation, as mentioned you’ll need three key ingredients:

  • Gin
  • Cointreau
  • Lillet
  • Absinthe
  • Lemon juice.

Combine the ingredients in a Boston shaker with ice and shake until cold to the touch. Pour into a coupe (which is pictured here) and garnish with a lemon slice. I decided to burn mine a bit for presentation purposes.

What is the difference between a Corpse Reviver and a Corpse Reviver #2?

The original recipe is comprised of apple brandy, cognac and sweet vermouth whereas the ingredients for the #2 are completely different. See above for the #2 ingredients.

Here’s a standard one (and yes, I know garnishing with an apple slice is a bit crazy but so am I!).

This is the standard one, see below for the recipe for the #2.

How to make a Corpse Reviver #1

To make this cocktail combine  2 parts cognac, 1 part apple brandy or Calvados and 1 part sweet vermouth. Pour the ingredients into a shaker and shake until cold. Pour into a coupe such as the one pictured above and garnish as desired.

Let me know which one you prefer in the comments!
