First, a big thank you to Maxine from the Grilling & Chilling Soapstone Company (formerly known as Brazilian Stone and Ice) for her endless patience. I have been trying to get this post together for weeks now and it has been a crazy time, the past month.
When I was first contacted by Maxine to try out her line of Brazilian Fire & Ice Grilling Stones I was intrigued on two counts; first, she’s from Edmonton so I was in like Flynn for supporting a local business and second, my BBQ is a piece of junk that has seen much better days.
You might be thinking why on earth would it matter that my BBQ is a piece of junk?
Well, my friends, I was grooving on these grilling stones because you place them on your BBQ grill for a whole new grilling surface. As long as your BBQ works and heats up – and mine does- you have a new grilling surface that will last you longer than your BBQ will.
I am absolutely in love.
The grilling stones are crafted from a harder version of soapstone, making them impervious to bacteria and allowing heat to be distributed throughout the stone evenly, making for the perfect grilling surface. What I was most interested in, from a health point of view, is how they inhibit flare ups, meaning less burnt meant and less carcinogens on your food.
We did some gorgeous filet’s on the grilling stones and they were perfect. Look at the crust that forms on the steak! The juices are seared right in, making for perfectly cooked steak.
Turkey burgers were next.
I really was interested to see how the grilling stones could help keep the juices inside the turkey burgers since cooking them on a grill surface is just about the worst way you can cook them!
I did take a short video of the turkey burgers cooking, because this is where the grilling stones shine. Look at that burger cooking in it’s own juice.
Perfect.
What I couldn’t capture in this next video is how when I tested the burgers – and they were technically overdone at 195 degrees! – the juices just flowed right out. That crust that I puncture with my thermometer just held those juices in! You can’t see how the juices just flowed right out, but they did!
The end result?
AMAZING turkey burgers. I will be posting the recipe ASAP here, but for now, just take a look at this beauty.
Other than a quick seasoning when you first receive your grilling stones which isn’t much trouble at all, the maintenance on the stones is incredibly minimal. They scrape off easily, wash with soap and water and you can even – carefully- put them in your dishwasher.
I can’t rave enough about how awesome the grilling stones are. They have turned my crappy BBQ into something that cooks up amazing steak, burgers and more. I cannot wait to try salmon on it, chicken, the list goes on and on. I love how I don’t have to worry about limiting the amount of BBQ we eat due to worrying about the carcinogens from the flames! I can cook all summer long on my BBQ!
Now Maxine has put together an absolutely incredible giveaway for readers of The Kitchen Magpie! This is a fabulous package full of goodies from The Grilling & Chilling Soapstone Company!
First, you have two camping griller stones that are valued at $44.95 each (these are the same two I have on my BBQ), two crystal glasses valued at $25.00, a set of 10 chiller cubes valued at $19.95 and chiller discs at $29.95.
The whole package is worth well over $200 because Maxine is also throwing in shipping for this heavy package of grilling awesomeness!
Good luck everyone!! This is such a fabulous product and I am so excited for someone to win the prize package!
If you are a BBQ lover, I can’t stress enough how you need to look into these stones, for health reasons, for cooking reasons and for the fact that it’s going to change the way you BBQ forever!

Karlynn
