The mere name of the Blue Lagoon Cocktail brings forth visions of calm blue shimmery seas – or the controversial 1980’s movie starring Brooke Shields – but let’s stick with the cocktail. The Blue Lagoon is one of Karlynn’s new favourites – although it doesn’t take much for her to have a new favourite, that’s pretty much every time I make a new cocktail.

How to Make a Blue Lagoon Cocktail

First off, you can most likely guess that you have to use Curacao to get that dreamy blue color. The three ingredients for a Blue Lagoon cocktail are:

  • Vodka
  • Blue Curacao
  • Lemonade

What’s the Difference Between a Blue Lagoon and the Blue Hawaiian Cocktail?

The main difference is that the Blue Lagoon is vodka based and the Blue Hawaiian is rum based. While both use blue curacao, the taste is completely different.

Now, you are going to see a lot of cocktail photos taken in front of our tabletop fire pit over this summer. We had plus 22 °C weather yesterday and Karlynn got a bee in her proverbial bonnet. She had to have EVERYTHING up, and instantly. I have to admit, once the outdoor furniture was uncovered, cleaned, put into place and the sun shelter had all of it’s netting and privacy shades up, it was glorious to sit outside in the first real nice weather of the year. And sitting outside meant new cocktails for us to enjoy after all that hard work.

Does Curacao have alcohol in it?

This is a really commonly asked question and yes, curacao has alcohol in it. I know that a lot of people look for something that gives that bright blue color to the blue lagoon cocktail and the Fee Brothers Blue Curacao Cordial Syrup (USA readers only) or Amoretti Blue Curacao Syrup (Canadian Readers only) is what you need!  We have ordered some ourselves so that we can make some fun blue summer drinks for the kids.

If you switch to Malibu Coconut Rum they’re even yummier!!! 🙂

  2. don allen says

Blue curacao is a liquor that can be found in most places that sell gin, rum, etc….so not a syrup. It’s a dutch product (not exclusively dutch produced however) that varies in alcohol from 15-40%. Most that I’ve seen is about 20% alcohol. It’s normally clear but coloring is added so it can be found in red, green, and blue in places like Curacao itself. A great place to spend New Year’s by the way.

I forgot to say that the Fee Brothers Blue Curacao Cordial Syrup is not one of the five choices.

  4. Sheila says

Just a heads up about the link to the Fee Brothers Blue Curacao Cordial Syrup, it no longer links to anything except a notice that says it cannot be found.

Typing “Blue Curacao Cordial Syrup” in the search bar brings up five choices when you click on the “show all five results” so I’m guessing the one from your link is no longer available. I’m sure anyone able to navigate Amazon will be able to find a Blue Cuaracao Cordial Syrup.5 stars
