This was my greatest idea ever. EVER. And I have a lot of great ideas. *she admits modestly*. I finally had a Saturday off work, and at home, and we went back and forth over what the heck we were going to do as a family, finally, as a family. I have spent my weekends off in Calgary helping various family members and we have not had one weekend off this summer as a family
We considered everything under the sun, then realized that we were just too tired out to attempt a trip to anywhere. I remembered that I saw a firepit on clearance at the big W, so a weekend was born..
Presenting our first annual family staycation.
We did the works. Fire, chairs, tent, sleeping bags, and assorted camping food.
We roasted our dinner two nights in a row. Hotdogs all around.
Followed by the requisite marshmallows.
The kids will be talking about it for weeks. They ate hotdogs day and night. The firepit was going for hours on end. The smell of smoke has permeated our pores and my neighbors houses.
The kids and Mike actually did sleep in the tent, but came in around 2 when the hail/rain/massive thunderstorm chased them inside. I can’t believe the kids actually fell asleep around 9, and would have lasted the whole night if the darn thunderstorms hadn’t moved in.
The best parts of my staycation.
1. I got to shower and use my own bathtub.
2. I got to use my dishwasher for all the dishes. This is huge. This is why I am never camping without a dishwasher again. Not sure how that translates into ever leaving my yard..but I will work on that.
3. The kids were totally, completely, utterly entranced by the concept. They kept talking about how wonderful and fun camping was. They can’t wait to camp again. They think we are the best parents ever. And on and on…
4. I got to sleep alone. In my bed. Till 2 am! This hasn’t happened in months!0
