Looks like I can try sweet potatoes after all! This was our weekend project and it’s complete except for the dirt. Which is my next dilemma but I’ll get to that later.

This was a big task on my list of things to do this spring (one of oh-so many) and I am so happy that they are done.

We built one deep one that is 12 feet long and about 4 feet wide and a short one the same. The deep one will give me a good 13 inches of soil and the small one I will have about 6. The deep one will have full size carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and parnsips. The small one will have peas and beans at the back by the netting, tomatoes, pumpkins, zucchini, beets, cucumbers and perhaps watermelon. I’m thinking about where to put the asparagus. And I am sure that other veggies are going to find their way in there.

I have 96 square feet of gardening space in the city. It’s amazing how you can find space on a small city lot when you really want to.

I am completely excited to get these filled and planted May long weekend! Thanks to my husband for making these and my brother giving him a helping hand to finish them this afternoon.

I don’t have much to say about the actual building of them, other than always use untreated wood even though you are going to have to replace them in a few years. Each 12 foot board of untreated spruce was only around $10, making this about an $80 project and we didn’t shop around just bought at the closest hardware megastore. We are also lucky that one side is supported by a fence and the other the concrete pad helps brace the stakes because the deep one has to be very solid to hold all that dirt!

Hurray only 43 more things on my list and $21343.98 left to spend.

I exaggerate. Sorta.
