A slice of Mars Bar Stuffed Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie in a White Plate

A giant skillet cookie recipe stuffed with little Mars bar bites of joy is pretty much as awesome as it gets. This latest creation – like so many that I have been posting lately – came about from my stint at the Edmonton Home & Garden show. I had to come up with 5 desserts that anyone could make and take to a dinner party.

I knew when I was planning the show that I would be including a skillet cookie. I was asked to think about the trends of local food and with that comes home baking. With the home baking  trend comes bringing dessert to dinner parties that you are asked to. With bringing dessert to dinner parties that you are asked to comes the problem of the hostess gift.

The skillet itself is a perfect hostess gift, one that I am going to make use of time and time again, until my friend’s cupboards are filled with cast iron wonders and they stop inviting me over for dinner because they can’t fit any more skillets into their house.

Truly though,  it makes for an inexpensive (the skillets are $12 at Superstore for a pre-seasoned, ready to go skillet) and unique one-time hostess gift, especially when you print out the recipe that you baked into it and attach the card to the skillet handle. Everyone loves a good chocolate chip cookie recipe and when you add in Mars bars it becomes simply irresistible!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I am at home with two little sickies, so I am up at the crack of dawn writing this. Meaning I was up at around 6:30, which to me certainly feels like the crack of dawn. It’s almost eight and I can’t hear any little feet pitter-pattering upstairs yet.

I know as soon as I publish this and sit down with a cup of tea to read, they’ll be up, fevers or not. Those two twerps of mine just have this inner sense of when I am about to relax.

What’s everyone up to this chilly week?

Love,

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 396-432 grams Mars bars 11-12 snack size bars cut in half lengthwise

Instructions

  • Cream your butter and sugars together until they are light and fluffy.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating in completely after each addition.
  • Add the vanilla and mix in.
  • Whisk together your dry ingredients and add to the butter/sugar mixture. Combine well then add the chocolate chips, mixing until they are spread through the dough evenly.
  • Take half of the cookie dough and press into the bottom of a pre-seasoned cast iron skillet.
  • Take the cut up Mars bars and place into the skillet, making sure they are distributed evenly across the surface of the cookie dough.
  • Take the remaining cookie dough and cover the Mars bars, filling in the spaces all the way to the skillets edge, making a smooth top. If you are using a 10 inch skillet, using all the cookie dough will bring the cookie right up to the top of the skillet. If you are using a 12 inch, it will be just below the skillet's edge. Both are lovely, but choose your size depending on the look you wish to achieve.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes, until the cookie is baked through.
  • Serve warm, cutting into pie shaped wedges and top with vanilla ice cream if desired.
