It’s been a while since I’ve posted a new drink concoction, which attests to how crazy busy we are lately. I can’t believe that none of my busy-ness has to do with going back to school, since we are homeschooling this year there isn’t the usual running around trying to buy new clothes and school supplies.

Part of me is a teensy bit sad, let’s face it, it’s hard to work at home and have the kids underfoot. I have no idea how we are going to accomplish everything that needs to be done, between homeschooling and all of my work, but hey, come next week it’s going to be sink or swim!

Good thing I’m a decent swimmer. And a lover of wine.

This recipe came from the need to use up some sour cherries and raspberries quickly. Those of you who pick fresh berries know what I mean; you have one or max two days of eating them fresh and then allofasudden the berries are right on the edge of going bad.

This is a gorgeous drink of all things summery.

Sour cherries.

Raspberries.

Lemonade.

And of course bourbon, but in my opinion bourbon knows no season that doesn’t love it.  😉 This right here, is what I miss the most about summer. Bright, gorgeous, delicious fruit. I can’t believe it’s almost September.

The amount you use of either berry can vary, or heck, use all of one type and none of the other, since I am going to give you a recipe that has the basics there for you. One cup of  juice from berries of your choice is what’s needed. All raspberry? Mmmm! All cherry? Delicious!

Basically what I am saying is that you just can’t go wrong. You could even just buy raspberry or cherry juice, it doesn’t have to be fresh, however fresh is seriously delicious.

I do hope that you round-up some berries this week and spend the long weekend enjoying something wonderfully summery and delightful.

Man, I’m seriously going to depress myself here. It’s a good thing I love fall, because I am really bummed out that summer is over. We just get SO little nice weather here in Alberta and it goes so darn fast. Sigh.

Cherry and Raspberry Bourbon Lemonade

Fruity and delicious raspberry cherry bourbon lemonade! The perfect way to use up an abundance of berries!

Ingredients
 

  • 1/2 cup sour cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup raspberry juice
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 4 ounces of bourbon
  • ice

Instructions
 

  • Combine the first five ingredients into a pitcher to make your lemonade.
  • You can add/subtract sugar to your liking at this point.
  • Fill 2 large glasses with ice, then pour 2 ounces of bourbon into each glass.
  • Fill each glass to the top with the lemonade.Enjoy!

While the recipe is for two drinks, you have enough lemonade to make around 6-8 drinks in total.

    Check. Cherries? Check. Raspberries? Check. Lemonade? Check. Except
    maybe the sadness that Summer is going going gone. I ain’t gonna lie – I
    don’t love the hot weather. I know what you mean about Alberta (I grew
    up in Strathmore) but the heat just kills me. I’m much more a Fall kinda
    girl – especially since I’ve canned the crap outta cherries this year
    so I can make these bad boys (aka cherry raspberry bourbon lemonades)
    all Winter long. Bourbonator solidarity girl!

    Would you believe that we are days away from September and I haven’t had a single glass of lemonade all summer?! Gah! When I do, it should have bourbon in it, like this one. Yum 🙂

      @Janice Haha yes, when you finally get around to it, you should add bourbon. Bourbon makes everything better!
