You simply must have know that I would move onwards and up from my basic How To Make Hot Chocolate Mix and start concocting all sorts of devilish, delightful hot chocolates with it, yes?
You also know that I love mint and chocolate (like my Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies) and to be honest, we have a hard time finding mint hot chocolate here in Canada and to add to that difficulty, mint hot chocolate without hydrogenated oil in it. Yes, you can buy After Eight hot chocolate but I don’t like the ingredients and it also doesn’t come by itself, you have to purchase a whole box of other kinds as well. You can at Bulk Barn buy small individual packages of Mint Hot chocolate, but still I wanted better ingredients in mine.
I have been drinking this since I first made my own hot chocolate because as soon as I successfully made one batch I instantly turned to making mint hot chocolate.
The key is to find some great mint chocolate chips and I love the Superstore PC Brand. They are NOT colored green, they are a semi-sweet chocolate that is mint flavored and I can’t suggest enough for you to NOT use the colored chips. You need real chocolate, not something called “Baking Chips”. Not the same thing at all, my friends.
So, semi-sweet mint flavored chocolate chips is the way to go. Heck, use a chocolate bar if you like.
You can adjust the mintiness easily by adding less or more candy cane. I found that I liked a combinations of large chunks from broken up candy canes and small from crushed candy canes. The big ones take time to melt which is nice but the small ones melt fast and give you that POW taste right away.
I hope that I just made some mint lovers happy! Have fun playing around with the combinations to make your own homemade hot cocoa mix perfect! Remember, if you are looking for something that tastes like the store-bought, this is not it. This is much, much better than store bought in my opinion! Also be sure to try my Homemade Skor (Toffee Bits) Hot Chocolate!
Thanks for stopping in! Now it’s time for me to enjoy a nice Bourbon Apple Cider Sangria
Love,
Karlynn

Ingredients
- 3 cups powdered milk
- 1/2 cup icing sugar
- 1 cup cocoa
- 2 cups mint chocolate chips
- 4-5 candy canes OR 1/2 cup crushed candy cane
- 1/2 cup marshmallows optional
Instructions
- If you want larger chunks of mint in your hot chocolate, break up a few candy canes by hand and place them in the food processor. I like big chunks that take a while to melt. If you don't, use crushed candy canes instead.
- Place all the ingredients except the crushed candy canes into a food processor and grind until smooth. Have patience! It takes a while for the chocolate to chop up.
- Once the powder is created, then you can add in the crushed candy canes; pulse them a couple of times to get them mixed in.
- To use: Add the hot chocolate powder to taste in a cup of hot water. Since we use milk powder, you don't need to use milk.

I have a lactose free husband. If we leave out the milk powder, can we just add the remaining mix to a cup of lactose free milk? thanks so much.

How much of the mixture do you put in a mug?

I’m so excited to try this! As a fellow Canadian I too find it hard to find good mint hot cocoa.
I haven’t been able to locate the mint chocolate chips. Can I use a different kind of mint chocolate? I’m thinking Andes chocolate mints.
