Why You’ll Love My Recipe

If you’ve ever wanted to eat icing by the spoonful, here’s your chance. This indulgent dessert dip is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth and become a hit at every party. Serve it with a platter of cookies and fruit.

Why not make your own chocolate frosting to use in this dip, or whip up a batch of Mint Chocolate Brownies for the topping? If this decadent treat still hasn’t fulfilled that craving, try some Double Chocolate Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Karlynn’s Recipe Notes

  • Skill Level: This is a very easy recipe to make.
  • Total Time: Making this dip will take about 10 minutes, plus a bit of chilling time in the fridge.
  • Variations: There are so many fun ways to modify this recipe! Change up your toppings, add some chopped nuts or chocolate chips. Make it a bit boozy by using your favourite Irish cream or coffee liqueur instead of chocolate milk.
  • Tools Needed: For this recipe, you’ll need a stand mixer or a medium bowl and hand mixer, a pretty serving bowl, a small dish, a mixing spoon or spatula, a cutting board and a knife.

What You’ll Need For Ingredients

Dip: Make sure you use INSTANT chocolate pudding for this recipe, rather than the kind that requires cooking. This recipe was tested with a creamy chocolate frosting, but it should work with a whipped/fluffy frosting. Full fat cream cheese is probably ideal for this dip, but if you want to try alternatives just be prepared for the texture to be different.

Toppings: You can buy some little two-bite brownies, or use whatever brownies you like for crumbling on top of the dip. A Skor bar or Heath bar will give you an awesome crunchy topping, but you could try using Skor baking bits or really whatever chocolate bar is your favourite.

How To Make Death By Chocolate Dessert Dip

This is a brief overview of the recipe. The full list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions are in the recipe card below.

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, mix the cream cheese and chocolate frosting on low speed until it’s smooth.
  2. Sprinkle in the pudding and mix until completely combined.
  3. Dissolve coffee granules in chocolate milk and beat into the mixture in the bowl.
  4. Spoon into a serving bow, cover with lid or plastic wrap, and refrigerate until thickened and set completely.
  5. Top with brownies and chocolate bars. Serve with cookies and fruit for dipping.

Karlynn’s Tips and Tricks for Making Death By Chocolate Dessert Dip

Make This In Advance: If you make this dip a few hours in advance, or even the night before you plan to serve it, the pudding will have time to properly set. The pudding is instant, but still benefits from that extra time. Just don’t put anything on the top until just before serving, so you don’t end up with mushy toppings.

Serving Ideas: Since this is such an incredibly rich and sweet dip, try serving it with cookies that are a bit simpler. Arrowroot biscuits, graham crackers, basic shortbread cookies, some flaky wafer cookies. You can also use this as a dip for fruits. Strawberries and bananas tend to go well with chocolate but you can try whatever fruits you like. Keep a dish of whipped cream or whipped topping on the side in case people might like to lighten things up a bit.

Storage Instructions

You can store this dip covered in the fridge for 2-3 days. After that it may start to separate, but you can give it a stir and keep using it. While you can try freezing it, the texture would change significantly when defrosted. So if you have any left to freeze, why not try putting it into a popsicle mold and eating it like a Fudgsicle?
