Bacon makes everything better, especially plain ol’ green beans. By wrapping some par-cooked green beans in your favorite bacon, you get an explosively tasty, bacon-y, and nutritious side dish that’s perfect for dinners or parties.

For some more bacon wrapped veggies, try some Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Asparagus. Or maybe some Bacon Wrapped Roasted Cabbage Wedges instead?

Simple Bacon Wrapped Green Bean Bundles

While it might look like nothing more than a simple party food, these bacon wrapped green bean bundles are actually a great side dish as well.

The salty, smoky meatiness of the bacon helps both flavor and disguise the green beans, making them a sneaky yet effective way to trick your kids into eating their vegetables.

Plus, the bacon wrapping turns everything into a neat little parcel that is incredibly easy to devour with your hands!

I’ve included a simple, sweet sauce that you can either pour over your bundles or dip them, but feel free to leave it out if you don’t want to make it sweet.

Ingredients for Bacon Wrapped Green Bean Bundles

This is just an overview of the ingredients, see the printable recipe card for the full measurements.

  • Green beans
  • Slices of bacon

(Optional) Sauce

  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Garlic powder

How to Make Bacon Wrapped Green Bean Bundles

  • Wash and trim the green beans, then microwave them for 4 minutes in a microwave safe container
  • Take 8 green beans and wrap one slice of bacon around it
  • Lay each bundle with the bacon tucked underneath, with each bundle touching the other one
  • Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until the bacon is cooked to your liking.
  • For the sauce, melt the butter and mix in the sugar and garlic powder. Use it as a dip, drizzle it over the green bean bundles or omit it entirely, whatever you prefer.

What Kind of Bacon Should You Use?

Most recipes that use bacon as a star ingredient frequently neglect to adequately specify what kind of bacon you should use. After all, a casual glance at the meat section of any supermarket will show at least 20 different kinds of bacon, all somehow different from one another.

First of all, avoid Canadian bacon, and instead look for brands focused on a more traditional American style of bacon. Look for ones labeled as “Thin” or “Streaky,” and ensure they have that delicious line of fat running through them.

You should also prioritize smoked bacon, but if you really hate the smoke flavor, you can use unsmoked instead.

For non-pork eaters, turkey bacon is a decent substitute, but you will probably really need the sauce to help make up some of the missing fat.

Does It Need A Sauce?

The optional sauce in this recipe serves two main purposes: it provides a rich sweetness to offset the salty meatiness of the bacon, and it helps disguise any taste of vegetables for fussy eaters.

If you are serving these green bean bundles at a party, serve it as a dipping sauce so that people can choose what they prefer.

NOW.

There has been some feedback on this recipe and my Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Recipe.

  • A lot of people don’t like adding the sauce, so I have updated this recipe to reflect that. I personally will make this without the sauce for a side dish to meals for a great low carb option!
  • If you are really wanting to make a real splash entertaining, I would use the sauce.
  • If you truly love bacon wrapped food, try my very popular Bacon Wrapped Roasted Cabbage Wedges!

Ingredients

  • 48 green beans or 8 per bundle, however many you want
  • 6 slices of bacon one per bundle
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Wash the green beans and remove the ends, placing them into a microwave safe container with a little water in the bottom. Microwave them for about 4 minutes to soften them up a little.
  • Melt your butter, and mix in the brown sugar and garlic. I know that the garlic seems a little weird, but trust the Ukrainian girl on this one; the garlic just gives it that extra zing.
  • Take 8 green beans and wrap one bacon slice around it. Lay the bundles with the ends of the bacon tucked underneath, and make sure the ends are touching another part of the slice, the bacon will sear together and these won't fall apart, miracle of miracles!
  • To make the sauce, combine them in a microwave safe cup and heat until the ingredients are all combined and the sugar has dissolved somewhat.
  • You can either make the bundles plain, ( as shown) then put the sauce out for your guests, OR take the sauce, and drizzle it over the bundles, covering them as much as possible.
  • Pop them into a 400 degree oven and cook for about 20 minutes, until the bacon is cooked. Remove, cool them slightly and then be amazed!

Recipe Notes

  • Serve without the sauce for a low carb option!

How does one eat the bundles? By Hand or with Silverware?

  2. Mike Hokkanen says

Can you do a recipe or two for bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños? Thanks.

    • Jenni says

Yes, I used this recipe for jalapeño poppers and it was very yummy with the cream cheese filling! Might par boil jalapeños first if want them more tender. 🙂

  3. Sandra says

Hmm, I didn’t understand the instruction to “have the ends touch the bacon”. I,wrapped them with thick bacon and cooked for 20 minutes but the underside wasn’t cooked. So Imflipped ( they came lose) and cooked another 5 minutes. Maybe the TJ’s bacon is too thick? 😟

I made these last night for a group of 6 adults & my 3 boys – 9,5 & 3, to accompany my Whiskey Grilled Baby Back Ribs, (they are the best grilled ribs ever!!!), anyway….back to your green bundles…big hit! My local grocery store did not have any fresh green beans, so i used asparagus, they were really, really good! When my 9 yr old seen them even he couldn’t resist, “mmm I love bacon & anything that is wrapped in bacon”, was his comment. I also loved that I could prepare these earlier during the day just pop them in the oven before serving. I also prepared your Twice Baked Double Stuffed Potatoes – also DELISH!! I used Herb & Garlic cream cheese – YUM YUM! Accidentally stumbled across your website & so glad I did!
    Cheers!

Hey Nicole, so glad you liked them and what a great substitution asparagus must have been! Yum! I love asparagus..and bacon…great combo! My son as well eats anything wrapped in bacon. Those ribs sound amazing, perhaps you will share the recipe sometime when it’s grilling season here in Alberta (um, maybe in three months? Sigh.)

Thanks for popping by and thanks for the lovely compliments 🙂

I made the beans wrapped in bacon for the bookclub ladies this week. I do not usually try a new recipe on this group as they are all very fine cooks. Everyone loved the dish and asked for the recipe. I will definately make this again…a great way to get kids to eat their vegetables
