I loved this recipe so much I had to try it on the massive amount of carrot sticks I canned last year. The results were yummy! Thanks for this recipe!

Karlynn’s Recipe Notes
- Skill Level: This is a very easy recipe.
- Total Time: Making these sweet potato fries will take about 20 minutes from start to finish.
- Variations: You can try this same process with a different variety of potato, like russet, or a different root vegetable like carrots (as a reviewer suggested). Hard types of squash like acorn squash or butternut squash would also probably work well made with this process. Use your favourite seasoning for these fries or try something new with Cajun Seasoning Recipe.
- Tools Needed: For this recipe, you’ll need a very sharp knife or a French fry cutter, a cutting board, some parchment paper, paper towel, an air fryer, some tongs, a medium bowl, and a large bowl.
What You’ll Need For Ingredients
Sweet Potatoes: This recipe calls for sweet potatoes but can be used with other yams, squashes, or hard root vegetables. Depending on the exact size of your potato pieces you may need to adjust your cooking time, so just keep an eye on that air fryer.
Cornstarch: This simple ingredient does so much to help foods stay crispy when they’re being fried! That little dusting helps to soak up the moisture that steams out of the fries, and gives a little bit of a crunchy coating.
Seasonings: The basic flavours here are salt and pepper. Seasoning salt, if you prefer. But that’s only the beginning! You can add just about any spice you like to these fries.
How To Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
This is a brief overview of the recipe. The full list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions are in the recipe card below.
- Slice the sweet potatoes into evenly sized fries. Put the pieces in a large bowl of icy water to soak for 15 minutes.
- Line a basket or plate with parchment paper and set aside. Lay out paper towel on a flat surface.
- Set (preheat if needed) air fryer to 375°F.
- Drain potato sticks and lay them on the paper towel. Pat dry.
- In a medium bowl, toss potato sticks with the olive oil. In the same bowl or a different medium bowl, sprinkle the fries with cornstarch and seasonings, and toss until fully coated.
- Spread fries evenly in air fryer basket. Cook for 10-15 minutes.
- Take out fries and out them in the parchment-lined dish.
- Enjoy!

Storage Instructions
Fridge: These will be best fresh, but you can store them in a sealed container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Keep a piece of paper towel or parchment paper in the container to absorb moisture. Reheat in the air fryer or oven to get them nice and crispy again.
Freezer: If you’d like to freeze these to reheat later, try spreading them out on a baking sheet and freezing them that way first until they’re solid. Then, toss them into a freezer safe bag or container. You can freeze them for a few months. Take them out and reheat in the air fryer or oven when ever you want.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potatoes washed and peeled
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons corn starch
- seasoning salt, or salt and pepper, if preferred
Instructions
- Using a knife or a French fry slicer, slice the sweet potatoes into evenly sized potatoes stick for fries. It works the best when they are all close in size to each other.
- Line a basket or plate with parchment paper.
- Place the sweet potato sticks into a bowl of cold water and completely cover with water. Soak in the water for 15 minutes.
- If needed, preheat your air fryer to 375° (not all models require preheating)
- Drain the potato sticks and lay out on paper towels. Blot them dry with more paper towels.
- Place in a medium-sized bowl and toss with olive oil.
- In a medium-sized bowl, toss in corn starch and seasoning salt until thoroughly coated.
- Place the fries in the bottom of your air fryer basket in one even layer.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes at 375° until the fries are crispy and golden brown – start checking at the 10-minute mark then watch them closely until they are cooked to your preference.
- Remove and shake the fries into the parchment lined dish. (parchment helps keep them crispy, nothing absorbs the oil or makes the fries soggy like paper towels do)
- Serve and enjoy!
