a box of Dal Palak - lentils with spinach

Ok.

It’s pre-packaged food.

I am excited about pre-packaged food. True story.

I wandered into the aisle at Superstore that holds all the huge super bags of spices needed to make curries and for the first time in years took a really long, leisurely look at what else was in the aisle.

And found these vacuum sealed wonders.

I literally crave a good, spicy curry probably about weekly, or more depending on my mood. There is nothing I like better than a fantastic, aromatic, spicy meal.

However, these aromatic spicy wonders are so, SO finicky to make, they really are. The amounts of spices needed are mind boggling, the time needed is astounding and I just don’t have the patience to undertake making a good curry.

Frozen meals and canned sauce just don’t cut it either.

These tasted as close as you can get to restaurant food without going to one.

These were freakin’ fantastic. I was shocked. I bought then because they were a mere $2.69 each and I thought meh, what the heck.

And I was craving a spicy meal with no labor on my part required.

The Dal Palak, the lentils and spinach?  I only had a half of one and the rest disappeared far into my husbands gullet.

My son could eat a whole one by himself, he absolutely loved it.

No preservatives, no coloring, cooked with olive oil, low cholesterol, 100% vegetarian and just plain spices and the ingredients.

The whole package of lentils was about 310 calories as well, that’s it.

All you do is open the sealed package and heat up.

The Dal Palak is going to be a staple in my cupboard for when I crave curry and I just can’t get out to a restaurant. Which is usually about twice a week.

I just have to hide them now from my husband and son if I ever want to eat some. I still can’t get over the fact that Mike ate lentils and loved them. And my son who thinks he’s a vegetarian adores lentils as well.

I truly think that we could easily become vegetarians if everything just came smothered in a good spicy curry sauce.

I am hoping to find some more in this line of foods as well, but even just the lentils make me happy.

Good to know. My wife likes quick items like this for when she’s with the kids and a meal time sneaks up on her – I’ll have to pick some up to try them.
