Mars Bars Squares are a classic treat that is always a hit! Melted Mars Bars, ( or if you are in the USA, use Three Musketeers or any nougat bars that are like it) combined with butter and rice Krispies make the easiest and most delicious bar ever!

How to Make Mars Bars Squares

Sometimes simple can be simply the best, and it’s nice to forget the fancy desserts and go back to the basics. Mars Bar Squares are the basics.

What could be a greater start to a recipe than melting chocolate bars with butter? I can’t think of anything to be honest.

  1. Melt the butter and the Mars bars together in a pot.
  2. When that’s done, mix the Rice Krispies in with them, then transfer to a well-greased 9×9 pan. Pat into an even layer.
  3. Melt the chocolate and butter for the topping, then pour it on top. Cool in the fridge briefly to set the chocolate topping then cut into pieces and serve.

Mars Bars are Perfect for Parties!

These are my entire family’s go-to dessert when we are asked to bring a treat to a party, or whenever we have a family picnic!

How to Store Mars Bars Squares

Keep them in a cooler in the hot weather and they will stay perfect, and if you are at home simply store them on the counter.

For longer-term storage you can store them in the fridge, they do get a litter harder but that has never stopped us! Also, they are rarely stored that long as they tend to go quick!

Mars Bars Squares are THAT easy, you guys! It’s no wonder my Mom made these all the time when I was growing up – and she still does! Except she leaves the chocolate off the top and I keep telling her that it’s a crime against all things delicious to do that. They are good without the chocolate, but they are AMAZING with the chocolate topping.

Happy non-baking up these Mars Bars Squares!

Love,

Karlynn

Comments & Recipe Tips Share a tip or comment!

  1. Betty says

Note to self and anyone else…melt bars and butter on low, I didn’t and the squares are hard 😩

  2. Jenn says

I use 6 tbs of golden syrup from UK add it to the mixture, even better!

  3. Elizabeth says

These were amazing. I added 1/3 cup of skor bits to the mix and sprinkled a few on top. Great addition! I will make these very often!5 stars

  4. Kerri says

No need to use margarine to melt the chocolate chips. I like Milk chocolate chips instead of semi sweet. melt in the microwave for about 44 seconds or so and viola! Tasty cake!

  5. Lee says

I’m obsessed with this recipe! Thanks for sharing! Fellow Canadian here…adding that the US equivalent of a (Canadian) Mars Bar is Milky Way (after some research, I learned that the 3 Musketeers in the US doesn’t have the caramel layer, whereas outside the US, they do….go figure!)

  6. Raffelina meier says

Hi I have bite size mar bars in a bag so how many do I use thanks

    • Laury says

I used the large bag which doubled the amount of Mars Bars – so doubled the rice krispies and the topping too! put into a 9×13 pan! Hoorah! double the yummy!

  7. Cheryl says

Do you melt the caramel bars before putting on top of the Rice Krispies mixture, and how many of those bars do you use?

  8. Janet says

I used to make these all the time. My recipe called for some honey or corn syrup to be added with the butter and mars bars. Cant find it anywhere but they were delicious nice texture and no refrigerator or they get rock hard.

  9. Tamara Hannah says

I used a whisk for the last few seconds to make it nice and smooth. And my bars were 42.5 g bars that cane in packs of two.

  10. Maureen says

I have made these bars for years but lately have noticed them falling apart. Our theory in our house is that the Mars bars are shrinking. This time I made it with 5 bars minus a small chunk for the cook and it was a lot better. Next time it will be six bars. This is the regular size bar ( Canada)

  11. Rosalyne says

For those that report this mixture falling apart or too much butter… here’s the only tip you need. You haven’t stirred long enough. It takes time for this to eventually congeal into the shiny silky consistency you need before adding the Rice Krispies. I should know, I’ve made these hundreds of times. Now my daughter makes them for her work functions. Patience is the ONLY thing missing from your recipe.

    • Miranda says

thank you for this tip! I had thought too much butter also! I will stir longer!

  12. Diana says

Way too much butter. The butter congealed on the bottom of the bars.

I would significantly less butter next time

    • Shari Koehne says

You can use Milky Way bars in the U. S.
(they’re the same as the Canada Mars bars. The Mars bars in the US have almonds, the Cdn ones don’t)

    • Marci March says

I have been using this recipe for over 20 years and I simply love it!!5 stars

  13. Liza says

What size are the Mars bars that the recipe calls for? I see I can get many sizes and want to be sure. Can’t wait to try it!

  14. Sue says

I love these and instead of chocolate chips use Caramilk bars for the topping.

      • Stephanie Brewer says

Haha! You should try these with Caramilk bars on top and bring them to work!

    • Elise Sullivan says

I’ve been making these for years great hit with my family and friends. Perfect to add on my Christmas trays.
