Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe: Thick N’ Chewy

This chocolate chip cookie madness that seems to have overtaken me has been so much fun. What could be better than trying out versions of what is truly the world’s most famous cookie?

I’ll tell you what’s better.

Not having to go on the treadmill daily simply to combat the fact that I am baking so many cookies.

Not having to wash so many pans and spoons and cups and counters.

The adoration I am getting over these cookies from friends and family alike is really wearing thin. ;)  They are in chocolate chip cookie heaven, especially my co-workers who received not one but two batches of chocolate chip cookies this weekend.

So. Yet another recipe born of my Chocolate Chip Cookie Madness. These were a thick and chewy version of the recipe, and to obtain that you need to cut the butter amount in half.

These were good and very kid friendly, thick and delicious, strong enough to hold together in children’s lunches and small enough that you don’t feel too guilty sending them to school for a treat.

This is a quickie recipe, no photos to go along. Just click the “print” on the recipe below to bring up instructions that you can print out.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe: Thick N' Chewy

Thick and chewy chocolate chip cookies, perfect for school lunches.
Author:
Serves: 36
Ingredients
  • 2¼ cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup of butter
  • 1 tsp salt (if using unsalted butter)
  • 1 cup of packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Kick the tires and light the fires to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream together your butter and sugar until it’s light and fluffy. Add in the eggs and vanilla, mixing thoroughly. Beat in the flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. When that is done, fold in the two cups of chocolate chips by hand, and prepare to put them on some parchment paper lined cookie sheets.
  4. Drop by rounded teaspoonful onto the baking sheets.
  5. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown and slightly underdone. Cool on the sheets completely.

You can see in the picture how they are thick and chunky compared to the cookies I have been baking lately. Keeping the oven at a lower temperature and making sure to slightly under bake them will give you fantastic results.

Happy Monday everyone!

Love,

The Kitchen Magpie

First I used these ingredients the only thing I changed was I used about 1 1/2 cup chocolate chips instead of 2 cups and also I baked at 325° for 15 minutes and they were sooo good that I had to make another batch the only thing was I ran out of brown sugar making the first batch!! So I doubled up on the white sugar and added a little molasses and tada! They were perfect . I think the molasses actually added a little extra zing lol yum thanks for the great recipe

I have made these many many times and they are amazing.  I just made them and totally forgot to add the white sugar and they turned out pretty good.  I knew when I was mixing them something was wrong.  I read the recipe a couple times and thought I had everything lol.  Still delish!

Here are the tricks to bakeing cookies u don't want to melt the butter  cream the sugars and vanilla then add the flour and so on. once its all mixed u have to make sure that the dough is not runny it has to almost have a dry feel to it not to dry  if the dough is nice and fluffy and dry that's when u will have nice big thick soft cookies if u melt the butter the cookies will turn flat and grasy I added a dash of milk and mine always turn out amazing.

Anyone who criticise this recipe did it wrong...these are the easiest and best chocolate chip cookies I ever made...they came out exactly like the picture....follow the recipe and you won't be disappointed...they even stay chewy after a few days...thank you for the great recipe karlynn!

These cookies were the worst. Flat and greasy, not at all the dense, chunky cookie as described or pictured. I tossed the first two sheets of cookies right in the trash... Along with the rest of the unbaked dough. What a waste of time!

Mine were delicious but flat, not thick.  I melted the butter, could that be why?

Just finished baking a batch of these cookies and so far so good.  I used a mixer to mix all the ingredients and used salted butter.  This recipe is a keeper for sure

i made these and i only used 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup coconut sugar and completely cut the white sugar out, also i only used 1 cup milk chocolate chips.   They turned out amazing, i think these are my new favorite cookies love love loved them!!

I made these for a Christmas party, doubled up on the baking soda and substituted 1 of the cups of chocolate chips with crushed assorted nuts. They were ALL gone by the end of the night! Many thanks!

Do you happen to have the nutritional facts for these cookies? They came out great, thanks :)

As far as "flatness" goes, I made two batches. The first batch, I "creamed together" the butter and sugars with a fork. Probably should say "beat together" because my second batch creamed together with a mixer came out a lot plumper and delicious as ever! Not as plump as these, but definitely plumper than my first batch. Perhaps a bit longer beating would have given a plumper result. Family loved them! Definitely a keeper!

These are hands down the best chocolate chip cookies! Thank you so much for posting such an easy and tasty recipe. The only problem I find with these is you can't just eat only one or two..

where are you supposed to add the brown sugar?

Where it says to cream the butter and sugar. It's referring to both sugars. :-)

Just tried this recipe. I moved to a new place and my old recipe wasn't seeming to work the way I wanted in the new oven.  This was great, perfectly dense and chewy, that is how my family likes chocolate chip cookies.

Crossing my fingers and diving in to my mixing bowl in just a bit, hoping that these cookies are what I'm looking for since tonight I'll be bringing them to an event.  I love a thick, chewy cookie, here's hoping this is the one.  Thanks for sharing.

We have made these cookies so many times we know the recipe by heart. This is the best recipe I have come across for chocolate chip cookies. They always turn out thick and fluffy by following the directions perfectly and baking them at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. We have some in the oven right now!

Didn't turn out as I had hoped, Ithought I could go without brown sugar cause I had no more but I was wrong. They don't taste too good

Recipe fail. I made them twice and both times they are flat. The second time we quadruple checked every step and measurement. May be the altitude in Denver, but these are not thick in any way.

Just made them for a birthday gift: put in a large pickling jar with some ribbon.   She will love this recipe!  I cant help but admit there is one or three less cookies that are going to her.  Great recipe!!

Should the butter be melted or just brought to room temp before creaming with the sugar?

I cooked those few week ago for the family and husband loved them! Not the texture we're used to but was surprisingly good :)  I made a mistake of using olive oil cause I was out of butter. Don't. Seriously not good. To avoid in baking in general I'd say.  Anyway, I highly recomend these.

Thanks for sharing the reciepe :)

Bon appétit!
