Surf City USA : Huntington Beach

zucc

I had no idea that the beach we were headed to was the literal Surf City USA, I guess the waves there are the best for surfing, as well as an 8.5 mile white sand beautiful beach to find a spot to sit and watch. We took the kids to the ocean for the very first time while in California, the first time we weren't prepared with swim attire, the second we were ready for action! Mr K absolutely loved … [Read more...]

Oakland, California: Dunsmuir Historic Estate

dunsmuir2-300x225

I was so glad to have my dad along as my partner in crime, he loves checking out historic houses as much as I do, and when I stopped to think about it, we managed to get three of them under our belts this trip, no wonder I am exhausted! We visited San Jose for the Winchester Mystery House (awesome), then on the way to Anaheim we stopped in at Hearst Castle (amazing) and  while we were in San … [Read more...]

Disneyland!

tigger

Yip, we cruised through LA to Anaheim and checked into our slum, er, I mean hotel Friday night. Yes, I kinda meant slum, we are in a older type motor inn, and I knew what we were in for, but the hotel in Burlingame was SO nice, that this is beyond a step down! Its going from the Hilton to the street. No hot breakfast buffet with coffee 24/7 (oh yah baby, was that ever nice) just some stale … [Read more...]

San Simeon – Hearst Castle

3

On our way driving down the coast to get to Anaheim, we made a  detour so we were able to visit the Hearst Castle.  My dad and I are both lovers of old house tours, Mike would go just to humor me, but my dad really enjoys them as much as I do! We also visited the Dunsmiur House in Oakland, but those pictures will be posted when I get home, they are on the other camera. Mr K came with my dad and … [Read more...]

San Francisco : Random Things

goldengateflowers

1. I love Peet's coffee, and have found my replacement for Timmy's while I am down here. Totally fantastic, dark, strong coffee. I am bringing back a bunch of beans so I can have some for a month or two when I get home. 2. I want to move to either Nob Hill, or Marina Drive in San Francisco, but seeing as a 2 bedroom flat on Nob Hill is 700G, I am thinking I have to win the lottery first. 3. … [Read more...]

San Jose : Winchester Mansion

door2nowhere

Today we traveled to San Jose, about 30 miles away from where we are staying, and dropped Mike and the kids off at the Children's  Discovery Museum. Unfortunately those pictures won't be coming till we get home as we had to split the cameras, Mike took my dads and I, since my 3rd baby never leaves my hands, took my Canon with me. We were actual 40 minutes late leaving because I forgot to charge … [Read more...]

San Francisco : California Academy of Sciences

Everything here in this hilly, foggy but beautiful city, takes an entire day to visit, I see this now, very clearly, through the fog even.  If you ever decide to visit San Francisco (or just up and move here, like I want to) and you peruse all these tourist attractions online or in a brochure, please remember me telling you that I swear most or all take an entire day. When they do something, they … [Read more...]

San Francisco : Exploratorium

blackwhite

I love this city, I really do. The amount of kid-friendly things to do are astounding! Today while Mike was at his WordPress Camp, my dad and I took the kids to the Exploratorium, which was on my list to see and do. This place was indescribably amazing! There are hundreds of exhibits, and all of them are hands-on for you and your children.  We actually underestimated the amount of time that it … [Read more...]

San Francisco : Golden Gate Bridge

goldengateflowers_502x376

Since we were crazy and pushed ourselves to get here early, we were able to get up...have breakfast....and then do something touristy for the morning. We only had a few hours until we had to meet Mike at the airport, so we decided to go to the most famous bridge in the world, the Golden Gate. The last time I was in San Francisco, I was too small to remember much, so I am having the time of my life … [Read more...]

Twin Falls Idaho: Snake River

momkids

This is where we went back to, the scenic viewpoint, and it was well worth the slight backtracking and time that it took up. I didn't edit these photos since I am on Mike's laptop, but they look even more gorgeous when the colors are more real to life. Of course there was no way to get both kids looking at the camera, and Mr K was yelling "my eyes! The sun is burning my eyes!" My little vampire … [Read more...]

Twin Falls, Idaho

What an absolutely gorgeous drive it is through Montana. It has to be the most breathtaking scenery I have ever driven through, and I have gone through our own Rockies many times on our side  of the border. The road is a wonderful, non-stressful twinned highway, with wondrous views, amazing foothill ranching areas and beautiful blue waters. I commented to my dad that I now understood why in … [Read more...]

Talk About Weird Luck

hutterite13

This was just weird. What are the odds that as you run into a small city Walmart, aka the Airdrie one, that you are going to not only see a table stacked with a book that you wanted to read, but the author sitting at said table doing a book signing? Seriously, w-e-i-r-d luck. I had blogged about this book a month or so ago on my old blog, and had it in the back of my mind to pick up this summer. … [Read more...]

Road Trip: Calgary Bound

Well, even tho my inner voice is kinda shrieking at me 2.5 days of driving with 2 kids under 5 and your father in the same car are you insane woman, we're off on the first leg of our trip this morning! We have packed up everything but the proverbial kitchen sink and off we go. I can't think of anything that I forgot, and as long as I have passports for us all, the Disney tickets, my kids blankies … [Read more...]
