Good Friday

eb1_512x384

If your morning didn't start out with a plate looking like mine, fix that. Make Babka. Now. Or you will ruin Easter. And if it DID start out with a breakfast like mine, I hope you enjoyed the light, buttery, flaky joy that Babka is. Be careful when toasting because it falls apart so easily, yet that is the delicious joy of it! But here's my question: Babka or Paska? I have received a TON of … [Read more...]

It Came. I Held. I Thrilled.

M1_512x384

This was waiting for me on the island today when I got home from taking the kids to swimming lessons. I actually ripped the envelope open without even looking inside, because I honestly thought it was just another book sent to me to review. Except it wasn't. So when I actually stopped talking to Mike and looked at what I held in my hands, I let out a shriek to wake the dead. And after … [Read more...]

My Newest BookSense

booksense

The newest copy of MumSense is up, (pages 62 and63) and other than cringing over a few things I would like to change now, I am happy with the final result for the second printing of it. I am very excited that I was able to showcase the book The Gophers in Farmer Burrow's Field, which is written by a very talented artist who lives in Spruce Grove of all places! Mere minutes away. As soon as he … [Read more...]

How To Unclog Your Septic : AKA The Gross Realities of Acreage Life

septic0_512x384

Hahaha I forgot ALL about these picture from this summer when I spent a week with the kids at my parents house. Lucky me, I woke up in the middle of the night and found the downstairs bathroom floor flooded a bit, which on any land with a septic tank is Bad. As in it's going to be a lot of work for someone Bad. So of course, you have to check out your drains in the utility room which ta-daaa are … [Read more...]

The Olympic Torch Passes Through

IMG_0888_512x384

Otherwise know as The First Time My Son Drank a Coke. No seriously.  Let's talk about my Olympic Torch experience. In pictures. "Moooo-oooom, is the torch here yet?" "I'm tiiiired after my big pasta meal at BP's, then walking 4 blocks I'm going to lay in front of all the foot traffic trying to trample me to see the torch" "Oh, look, a Coke swag truck! Mom, what's Coke?" Swag. … [Read more...]

Thanks Be For 2009

sunset_562x750

I am feeling sentimental tonight, I really must be, because what else on earth would prompt me to write at 9:50 at night, on the first day back to school, having gone through with a pre-school birthday party/parent helper day and swimming lessons in the evening added on like a cherry on top. … [Read more...]

Airdrie Festival of Lights 2009

lights13_600x450

While on our mini-vacation to Airdrie for Christmas, we always, and I mean always, stop in at the Airdrie festival of lights. Always because now that my son knows there are little trains that take you around, he is like the proverbial elephant and never forgets. Except I really think the elephant would be less verbal in his insistance, nay, his outright demanding that we go. And since once in a … [Read more...]

Christmas at the Alberta Legislature

leg1_512x384

We went on our yearly ETS bus tour to view the lights at several areas in Edmonton, it is one of my favorite things to do at Christmas time. For a mere $3, you hop on an ETS bus, they turn off the lights, hand out carol sheets and you take off to view Candy Cane Lane, the museum, Whyte ave area and end up at the Legislature as well. I have no pics from the rest of the trip, because it had to be … [Read more...]

Christmas at the Muttart Conservatory

m6_512x384

I had the pleasure today of going on a fieldtrip with my daughter's preschool class to the Muttart Conservatory here in Edmonton. And with our heinous, out-of-control deep freeze that we had going on weather-wise this past week, visiting a place full of green plants and lush, earthy smells was tops on my list. Unfortunately, thanks to my nasty cold, I couldn't smell a dang thing, but I was so glad … [Read more...]

Full Steam Ahead Towards Christmas!

tree4_512x384

I am seriously worried that I am forgetting to do something, it seems like it's going to easy around here lately....decorations are up....presents bought and even sent home with my parents since we are having Christmas there... ....I like jinxing myself. Tempting fate is fun! Here's the newest addition to my weird obsession with Christmas moose collection my family. He was in the evil W last … [Read more...]

quarantine

The title of my post sounds like my house this week. All of us, including Mr K who got sick today and we had him at home. You can tell I am sick when I don't blog. I actually haven't blogged on post in a week; all my Pumpkin Week recipes were edited and scheduled to publish last week. And a dang good thing, until tonight I haven't had the time or the inclination or the brain power to type a single … [Read more...]

How To Watch An Airshow Country Style

IMG_6641_512x400

Well, first of all, you certainly don' PAY for it. Which means that you drive along the rural roads by your house, or in this case, your parents acreage, until you are the closest you can possibly get to the airfield. And then you join everyone else who had the exact same idea. You have to use your city skills to parallel park between everyone, but that's ok. It's free. … [Read more...]

Our Family Staycation

staytcation6_512x400

This was my greatest idea ever. EVER. And I have a lot of great ideas.  *she admits modestly*.  I finally had a Saturday off work, and at home, and we went back and forth over what the heck we were going to do as a family, finally, as a family. I have spent my weekends off in Calgary helping various family members and we have not had one weekend off this summer as a family We considered … [Read more...]

Is This Your Family Crypt?

grave8_512x384

What a title, how could I resist! But it is a completely legit, albeit attention getting, title for this post. When we went on our graveyard tour this past week, at the end we viewed a family crypt owned by the W.L. Young Estate. A random tidbit of knowledge that I didn't know that our tour guide told us: a mausoleum is a fully enclosed aboveground burial building, (with subterranean levels of … [Read more...]

Cemetery Tour : Edmonton Cemetery

grave3_356x384

Last night I went on my very first cemetery tour at Edmonton's oldest graveyard, Edmonton Cemetery. I now wish that I had been able to go to the other two sites, this was an incredibly enjoyable experience, it thrills you a little bit in a ghoulish way, yet is fascinating as well. The tour guide we had was excellent; she was a veritable wealth of information about Edmonton's history, and not only … [Read more...]

Girls Weekend Day 2 : Spa

Saturday Kandice and I spent the day at Pink Lime, and went for the works! But to start out my day even better, Mike brought me home some lovely tulips :) Then off to the spa! First was a mud body exfoliating scrub, followed by being wrapped up like a mummy to let it all soak in. Then while wrapped up like said mummy, it was facial time, which was lovely. Then after the facial was done, it … [Read more...]

Girls Weekend Day 1: My New Bangle

Day one of girls weekend with Kandice, we went to the Antiques show. I actually only found myself one little thing, a gorgeous handmade glass bead bracelet. I have been admiring artists on the web for a while now who create these, they are amazing works of art. So I was REALLY excited to find one for myself! I actually can't get a good picture of it, the glass doesn't want to photograph well, I am … [Read more...]

Ginger Cookies Done Easy

Yummy and as easy as.. 1...... 2...... 3! They hit the spot on a cold day inside with a sick little boy, AND the lack of effort was perfect for one sick little boy and his mother, both who had limited attention spans and a lack of time in general :) My dad bought the Decadent Chocolate chip mix for the kids and THAT one is sinfully delicious! … [Read more...]

Backstreet Boys

Fuzzy picture, but a great time was had! Those "boys" grew up into some smokin' hot men LOL! And I was amazed as usual how many songs I knew! Or embarrassed, take your pick. Ok well I have freely admitted I was going to the concert, so I'm not that ashamed. Boy, we thought there would be more tweens and 20 somethings, I think it was mainly cougars in training (which is the category we fall in of … [Read more...]

Headline: Boy Band Mauled By Cougars

I CAN'T WAIT! I bought tickets for Kandice and I to go (I knew she would be my partner in crime, I didn't even consult her LMAO) and WE ARE FINALLY GOING!! WE had wanted to many many years ago in our twenties and now we have the money and the cougar instinct. Weeeehhheeee hahahahaha! F I love boy bands! I love that I am old enough not to be embarrassed (mostly) over my love of pop sugar cute … [Read more...]
