Carrot Cake Scones

Lately I have been on a "use everything in the refrigerator before you grocery shop" kick, whether it's from the urge to purge, pack or otherwise feel like I am moving forward in a purposeful manner regarding the house selling/moving process.  It also helps me be creative when I might otherwise go for the same standby's baking wise and these scones were no exception. It went a little like … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Spice Scones

pumpkinspicescones1

These have been on the back burner of my mind for a while now, since our favorite muffins ever are my pumpkin chocolate chip ones, I knew that someday I would get around to making a scone to match. They had to have molasses, lots of spices and chocolate chips. I took these into work Saturday afternoon, because my work wife asked me to make something. In case you haven't met her before, here's … [Read more...]

Candied Ginger Scones

Can anyone out there explain my fascination with scones? Is there anyone else out there who feels the same way I do? That they are just the perfect treat, night or day, with coffee or tea,  sweet or savory? I. Love. Scones. I love the more cake-like ones without sour cream, but adore the tang and crispness that the sour cream ones have. I love fruit in them but also enjoy dark spicy ones with … [Read more...]

Strawberry Yogurt Scones

strawberryscones_512x384

These were inspired by a bunch of almost too ripe strawberries that I had left in the container. When they are that sweet and ripe, they are best for baking, the flavor is much better. However a word on baking with strawberries that many people don't mention. Strawberry baking does NOT last long. Strawberries make your baking soggy. They aren't a nice round fruit contained in a skin that … [Read more...]

Lemon Tea Scones

These weren't going to be a separate recipe, these are in fact the shortcake component of my lemon Strawberry Shortcake. Real shortcake is a scone or biscuit, not a cake. So of course, why would I make a cake instead of my favorite food of all? So off I went to create a scone/biscuit for my shortcake. These turned out so well on their own that I am posting the recipe separately as a scone. They … [Read more...]

Lemon Cranberry Scones

Lemon-Cranberry-Scones_512x384

These are my newest version of my scones, and our favorite so far. Of course lemon makes everything better, but I had a bag of dried cranberries in my cupboard and decided to use them instead of raisins, and the scones are so flavorful it's amazing. Ingredients: 2/3 cup of sour cream 1/2 tsp baking soda 4 cups of flour 1 cup of white sugar 1 cup of dried cranberries, sweetened 1 cup of … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Scones

I wanted to try and re-create the Starbucks type of pumpkin scone, even with the spiced glaze on top. I took the Best Scones Ever recipe and added some pumpkin and spices and they turned great, so this recipe will be a keeper. One thing to note is that you can make them as spicy as you want, up the spices until they are tuned into your taste buds. I went fairly easy on the spices for my trial run, … [Read more...]

Ginger Scones

gingerscones_512x384

Yes, yet another scones recipe! We love scones in our house, better than muffins, actually. Ok, nothing is better than my pumpkin muffins, but day to day we actually prefer scones. These are absolutely yummy, spicy but slightly sweet, anyone who loves a gingerbread will love these! If you want them sweeter, feel free to add another tablespoon or so of sugar, but I prefer less … [Read more...]

The Best Scones. Ever.

I think, sometimes, that my husband married me for my baking. Not all of it, but some. He has admitted, in a sugar-induced haze, that he married me so he could savor my butter tarts every Christmas. Now, don't go getting all excited, I mean butter tarts, there are no sneaky innuendos or double meanings implied there. My family's recipe for butter tarts. Yup. Savor them he does. Or is the word … [Read more...]

Apple Scones

You will find many recipes for scones on my site, they are a breakfast favorite. My husband eats them with peanut butter, my son with butter and my daughter with jam. They are a nice substitution for toast when you have a moment to whip something homemade up for breakfast or lunch. My pictures aren't the best because they were in the early morning sun (yeesh up at 7 and baking that morning!) but … [Read more...]
