I thought I would post some of the ideas that our friends came up with this year, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they are crafty, homemade, and personally done. Not that I don't like all our commercial gifts, but what a fantastic balance we had this year. I am really happy with the way Christmas turned out, the kids weren't spoiled with too many toys and enjoyed Christmas. You know its a success when your … [Read more...]
Merry Christmoose to Me… Merry Christmoose to Me….
My Boxing Day spoils...and only some of them! I won't bore you with other pics of my new decorations. But I did buy new, non-shatter decorations for the tree and oh so adorable stuff!I went at 7:00 am to the St Alberta Walmart and stood in line for an HOUR because they had two!!! cashiers on. My additions to my weird moose addicted-collection. And I was Supermom for Mr K today, he has been … [Read more...]
Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft #3
This one is a hard one, but not aggravating.1) Walk over to freezer.2) Remove chocolate truffle that took almost 2 hours to dip and decorate with teeny stars.3) Stuff in mouth.4) Relish the fact that my only craft tonight is perfecting my truffle savoring experience.5) Follow with well earned glass of wine.6)Repeat … [Read more...]
Homemade Fingerpaint
Today, besides baking up a storm, (I will post that tomorrow) I made homemade fingerpaint, which is part of Mr K and The Princess's gifts to their friends this year. It seemed to turn out really well, and what I loved is that we can give it to all their friends, even the young ones who eat everything, in fact, its perfect for kids just learning how not to eat their craft supplies! Completely … [Read more...]
Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft #2
I'll post this, because some of the other stuff just doesn't count as non-aggravating :) Cleaning out baby food jars and getting the glue off them IS annoying!! Homemade gift tags/cards. I chopped some of my old cards that had just the beautiful square on the front, then cut out a matching back from the inside. Nicely enough, they say "Blessed Christmas" on the top inside, just happened to work … [Read more...]
Paper Globe Ornaments
I saw a picture of these on someone's blog, but not a tutorial. I have searched, found that OF COURSE they are a Martha craft, but they aren't in her archives, they are from December of last year darn it. So, I attempted them anyways, and I am hoping that once Amanda looks at these, there is a tutorial in her book, because they just didn't work out exactly how I wanted. You can tell how its put … [Read more...]
Growing Food Security For Alberta
I found this link on the Edmonton Foodbank website and thought it very interesting.... What is Food Security? Food security is widely described as the condition in which all people at all times can acquire safe, nutritionally adequate, and personally acceptable foods in a manner that maintains human dignity. Food Security is everyone's business. Food Security includes the circle … [Read more...]
The Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft
Contrary to what I usually spout, I DO like being crafty. However (in my ripe old age) I don't have the inclination for big projects (unless its curtains or something to beautify the house, then I plug away) and its definitely not something I enjoy taking up my evenings. Given the choice between a great book and a craft, the book wins every time. I do enjoy, a quick, fun craft, and this 3D … [Read more...]

Memory Loss = Success

I went to place my green tomatoes into my cupboard this morning, and found a plate of these: HA! From three weeks ago, my little experiment. I threw them on a plate into the cupboard and totally forgot they were there. I guess the cool and dark does turn them red. They didn't rot and they taste fantastic...so now the rest of them are in paper bags (to keep the ripening gases in) and maybe we … [Read more...]
Magic Mushrooms
While out at the bird sanctuary, we came across these beautiful mushrooms, and the pictures don't do them any justice. They ranged from a dark red in the middle to orange on the outside, and looked like Smurf 'shrooms. K was just fascinated with them and admittedly, so were Mike and I. They were huge, and all over in one part by the path. Then I googled them this morning and found … [Read more...]
Shopping Spree
I should be watching my kids. Who IS watching my kids, come to think of it? Meh. Anyhow, Mr K and I went on a shopping spree at Holes last Sunday, courtesy of my giftcard from Auntie Kandice. And boy, did we have fun! Mr K loves going to garden centers with me, he loves looking at the plants, the hoses, the carts and the little outdoor playground they have there. Me? I adore that place. … [Read more...]
Beautiful Lunch
Ah my lunch just was so happy today. Everything was so brightly colored, fantastic tasting, the sun was shining.....we had a picnic lunch on the deck, just Mr K and I. We spent hours outside today, mostly just him and I. I worked 5 shifts this last week and I don't think I will do that again, Mr K was feeling a little lonely and needed lots of Mom time after that..and vice versa. I can't imagine … [Read more...]
Spring Things
The Hydrangea That Wouldn't Die. I couldn't kill this thing if I wanted to. Not that I want to, mind you, but I have tested its resiliency thoroughly. It has been as dead as a doornail in a pot, (ok, dormant only but it sure looked dead) then revived with water. It gave me three measly leaves last summer, so I told it nicely, I'm sorry, you are taking up too much space in my house with your … [Read more...]
Birthday Baby Brain Flowers
You know, its hard coming up with witty titles all the time! Anyhow, I digress. Kandice sent me some absolutely gorgeous flowers for my birthday, along with a giftcard to Hole's Gardening Center! That's like sending heroin to an addict! That's my girl , feeding my addiction. The flowers are gorgeous and since you never get to see what you send, I decided to post a pic of them. I can't take a … [Read more...]
Spring Fever
Spring fever is in full force around here, the weather has finally been above 0, the 10 feet of snow in our backyard is finally melting, which in turn, led to our first snowman of the year. Once we got down to, oh, about only 5 feet of snow, we were finally able to get out there and build one. I realized the other day that its almost time to start my plants, or at least the early starters. I have … [Read more...]
Four O'Clocks
Four o'clock, and all is well.... I love my 4 o'clocks. These are fantastic plants, and what's even better, is that Mr K and I grew these from seed. It's really cool to grow a bush (and they are a low bush) from seed. These are about a foot high and a foot wide, and so many little flowers on them. They do, however, not tell time that well. They;ve been open at 6 am, middle of the day, and late … [Read more...]
Blue and Orange Delights
I found this lovely flower (weed?) tucked in with my irises and lilies. Very small, blue and cute. My domesticated tiger lilies. I took this picture from the bottom since its totally pointing down towards the ground. These came all the way from my grandmother's garden in Dauphin, Manitoba, I am really glad that they are thriving enough to bloom after the transplant. They will come up year after … [Read more...]
Pink is the New..Pink?
Pink pink and more pink. I swore the seed package said "mix"...mix of what, different shades of pink? Or I just happened to plant alll pink seeds? However, this one is a gorgeous multicolor, ranges from some lilac shades to a nice yellow interior. Ah, my mutant lupine. And its not pink, of course, this one, had it grown instead of mutating into lord knows what, would have been purple. See … [Read more...]
Clematis
So pretty when I got home tonight, I took a pic during a small break from the rain, they looked so cheery against the fence in this gloomy weather. But they must looove this rain, because it went from 2 flowers to 5 gorgeous ones over the weekend. Hey, when you buy it as a spindly, sickly stick with a couple buds, you get excited over these things. Cause now its a spindly sickly stick with FIVE … [Read more...]
