Space Birthday Treat Bags AKA Astronaut Survival Kits

IMG_7661_512x384

The inspiration for these came from the plastic containers that I picked up from Superstore and the fact that my son wanted a rocket cake for his birthday. The containers were on sale for 75 cents each, and I thought, hey, what a much better way to do treat bags. These were an absolute blast to make, I had so much fun making them up! Along with of course, a dollar store book about space, I … [Read more...]

How To: Recover Kitchen Stools

6_512x384

Before the plague hit our family, I recovered two kitchen stools that my sister gave me, I kept meaning to buy some for the kids to sit up at our island, but never found ones that were right for the price. Seeing as how these were free, the price was perfect and I brought them home. However, the  cute red plaid my sister had did not match my kitchen in the slightest. I had, because I am such a … [Read more...]

Dollarama Delight

I love that store! Not only do they have great workbooks/maze books/puzzle books for kids that Mr K loves, (and goes through so fast that I am glad that they are a buck each) there is always something else I find that rocks. Yesterday I found a space border for Mr K's room, which is something I have been looking for forever. Most are either too expensive, too "old" looking (like for a man's … [Read more...]

A New Door!

This was Mike's project to complete while I worked Saturday, my parents and sister were up and he had the help he needed to get it in while someone watched the kids and helped Mike putty the glass into the door. Voila! This has been on my list FOREVER because the front area needed light sooo badly, but the doors are so darn expensive!! My sister got it for free through her workplace, Mike … [Read more...]

The Princess' New Room a.k.a My Weekend Project

I spent the weekend alone, and took on the project of The Princess' room, which has been on my list FOREVER. I made her some lilac colored curtains and then never found anything to match.  Good thing it was about 99 cents a meter at Fabricland, I wasted about 5 bucks. Anyhow, I went to Ikea, who rarely lets me down, and sure enough, fell in love with this Fabler line. All sorts of lovely old … [Read more...]

My Friday Project

My falls bulbs that I picked up at superstore.... I am torn on daffodils and tulips..they have never been my favorites...maybe I will try some daffodils as well, but the planting time is NOW since its getting so chilly.I was very excited to see the Allium (giant onions pretty much) I have wanted to try these for a while now! The others are all shorter ones that I am going to plant around the edge … [Read more...]

Felt Wallet

I was going to do this for Craft night, but I had time on my hands today so I whipped it up. The Princess chose the rabbit applique instead of iron on initials, then I had the buttons to match. So I stitched the sides, glued on the rabbit and did the button up. For some reason the gluestick stuck like a bugger, the materials must have just meshed well, I was rather shocked and thought I would … [Read more...]

Mushroom Prints

Yes, I have a lot of time to blog today. The kids are completely immersed in playing on the seats that we removed from the van (Wyatt borrowed it). We put them in the basement, and so far the kids have been to the moon, Mars (Venus was too hot, I was informed) and on a school bus for a field trip. Why didn't I think of that before? Just haul (painfully, I might add) the seats out, lug them … [Read more...]

More Homespun Christmas Ideas

From Kandice and Dan, homemade Toffee. Really, tasty, fantastic, homemade toffee. I had to smack Mike and stop him from eating it before I could take a picture. And then a really thoughtful gift for the wine lover, stemless wine glasses, a red and a white, a bottle opener and the most awesome wine stopper, if you can click and enlarge, its a huge green jewel! And of course, knowing that my … [Read more...]

Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft #3

This one is a hard one, but not aggravating.1) Walk over to freezer.2) Remove chocolate truffle that took almost 2 hours to dip and decorate with teeny stars.3) Stuff in mouth.4) Relish the fact that my only craft tonight is perfecting my truffle savoring experience.5) Follow with well earned glass of wine.6)Repeat … [Read more...]

Homemade Fingerpaint

Today, besides baking up a storm, (I will post that tomorrow) I made homemade fingerpaint, which is part of Mr K and The Princess's gifts to their friends this year. It seemed to turn out really well, and what I loved is that we can give it to all their friends, even the young ones who eat everything, in fact, its perfect for kids just learning how not to eat their craft supplies! Completely … [Read more...]

Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft #2

I'll post this, because some of the other stuff just doesn't count as non-aggravating :) Cleaning out baby food jars and getting the glue off them IS annoying!! Homemade gift tags/cards. I chopped some of my old cards that had just the beautiful square on the front, then cut out a matching back from the inside. Nicely enough, they say "Blessed Christmas" on the top inside, just happened to work … [Read more...]

Paper Globe Ornaments

I saw a picture of these on someone's blog, but not a tutorial. I have searched, found that OF COURSE they are a Martha craft, but they aren't in her archives, they are from December of last year darn it. So, I attempted them anyways, and I am hoping that once Amanda looks at these, there is a tutorial in her book, because they just didn't work out exactly how I wanted. You can tell how its put … [Read more...]

The Sunday Night Non-Aggravating Craft

Contrary to what I usually spout, I DO like being crafty. However (in my ripe old age) I don't have the inclination for big projects (unless its curtains or something to beautify the house, then I plug away) and its definitely not something I enjoy taking up my evenings. Given the choice between a great book and a craft, the book wins every time. I do enjoy, a quick, fun craft, and this 3D … [Read more...]
